GROWING WITH LOVE

Our farmstead is a haven of artistry, where each blossom and plant is nurtured with love and care alongside the wildflowers, food gardens, honey bees, chickens, and ducks.

Through permaculture design and our seasonally-driven, regenerative growing practices, we strive to cultivate a flourishing ecosystem that supports not only our vibrant blooms and crops, but also the diverse wildlife that calls our farmstead home.

By embracing permaculture principles, we aim to harmoniously blend beauty and regeneration, ensuring a bright and colourful future for generations to come.

We manage our small-scale acreage with organic and regenerative methods to help restore the health of the soil. We use permanent growing beds, where we create the beds and then continue to nourish the soil from the top down every year using compost, vermicompost tea, cover crops, straw, and wood chips. All of our plants are grown without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, or biocides.

We focus on providing a healthy habitat for all life, including the microorganisms in the soil, bees, insects and native pollinators. Half of our land is woodlands, and we started to sustainably manage the forest area this past year in hopes of seeing an increase in native wildlife and pollinators. We have also planted over 50 varieties of flowers, 30 fruit trees, as well as many vegetables, herbs, medicinal herbs in our now transformed lawns to fields to increase the biodiversity present and sequester more carbon.

Land Acknowledgement

Divine Colour Acres is located within the ancestral and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. We are deeply grateful to the Algonquin ancestors who cared for this sacred land and water. Before settlers arrived, this territory was subject to the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Nations to peaceably share and care for resources. We are committed to caring for the land upon which we grow and live.
